Special Collections: Conservation Wish List

Some Conservation Wish List Items

What is the Conservation Wish List?

Our Conservation Wish List is a regularly updated inventory of eight to ten items from our collection which have been identified as irreplaceable or rare, essential, and in need of conservation at any given time.  With such vast collections, our list covers a large range of topics, from natural history to American history; from world exploration to to the cultural influences here in Charleston.  By nature, these items represent core ares of our collection that reveal our past and help us interpret our world today.  See our brochure below for and example of our CWL and see ways to support our efforts.  For more information on our current list, please email our Director of Conservation and Bindery, James Davis at jdavis@charlestonlibrarysociety.org.

The Library published a book  in 2017 that we lovingly refer to as our "Favorite Fifty."  Rare, Prized and Valuable : the Charleston Library Society's Fifty Favorites From the Collections offers an accessible way to learn more about some of the treasures from our collection - including information on previously conserved items.  Part coffee-table book, part love-letter, part history-lesson, the Favorite Fifty is a great way to learn about the Library's history and its collections.  Support us by purchasing your copy today!
